Twitter updated their mobile apps for Android and iOS with a few new stuff. The layout got a complete makeover, but the most notable update has to be letting users share photos via direct messages.

Other features include adding users to favourites so you can get push notifications anytime they tweet. This could be done by turning notifications on from certain users, but they just made it a more prominent feature.

I’m not a fan of the abrupt design overhaul, it looks nice but it’s gonna take a lot of getting used to because they literally moved everything around. Everything includes composing a tweet: That’s at the bottom of the screen now.

How do you feel about the change? Also, please be good in your DMs

Today at the Apple event which featured the release of the iPad Air as its star attraction, the company showed some love to its MacBook Pro line up.

The upgrade which for the 13-inch version is now thinner at 0.71-inches and weighs 3.46 pounds and the 15-inch model came with upgrades such as improved graphics processors, a new Intel Quad-Core processing system, improved battery life (up to 8 hours), and new 802.11ac WiFi.  The MacBook Pro line now has in it the Haswell CPUs which has proved to offer significant improvements to battery life and comes out of the box with OSX Mavericks which is now available Free at the App store.

The flagship MacBook Pro with Retina display retains its very high screen resolution, which results in crisper text and clearer photos (2,560×1,600 for the 13-inch model, 2,880×1,800 for the 15-inch model).

The 13-inch MacBook Pro starts with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, while the 15-inch version defaults to 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD (which Apple described as “a quarter terabyte”). Both models are available NOW!

Alongside the colorful, plastic iPhone 5C, Apple revealed the iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5S is a direct upgrade to the iPhone 5 which was released around this time last year.

The iPhone 5S sports a few new improvements from last years iPhone 5. It comes packed with an all new 64bit A7 processor which Apple says doubles the performance from the previous iPhone and is up to 40 times faster than the original iPhone. According to Apple, this will make gaming and graphics processing on the iPhone 5S much better and faster. In addition to the A7 chip, the M7 chip is a motion processor for the iPhone 5s, which allows the phone to track your movements much better without pulling too much resources from the main A7 processor.

The iPhone 5S also has an improved camera that sports a whole lot of improvements, it has an F/2.2 aperture which allows in more light than previous iPhone models which in turn allows the 5S to take better pictures. It also has what Apple calls True Tone Flash which is essentially a dual flash system that allows for better pictures to be taken in low light situations. Another addition to the camera is the ability to record videos in slow motion, you can also edit videos that have been recorded and slow down a certain part of the video.

Perhaps the most innovative feature on the iPhone 5S is its new fingerprint recognition system called Touch ID which allows you to unlock your iPhone by simply placing your finger on the home button. Touch ID will also be used to buy apps, music and books from the various iOS marketplaces.

The iPhone 5S maintains an identical look to the iPhone 5, so all the cases and accessories for the iPhone 5 should work just fine with the iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5S will be available in Space Grey, Silver and Gold colors. It will be available for preorder starting on the 13th of September and will start shipping on the 20th of September. It will be available in 100 countries by December.

So what are your thoughts on the iPhone 5S? Are you anxious to get your hands on this iPhone? Or is it just another drab iPhone upgrade? Let us know in the comments below.

Apple, yesterday at its WWDC event showed us alongside its latest iOS7, the successor to the MacPro line. The new machine  took a bold new redesign and boasts some very impressive specs under the hood.

  • Design

The design has morphed from a rectangular silver tower to a shiny 9inch black cylindrical tower. It has a motion sensor so when it is turned to reveal the ports at the back, the ports automatically light up for visibility.

  • Power Structure

Engineered around workstation graphics with dual GPUs, PCI Express-based flash storage, high-performance Thunderbolt 2, new-generation Xeon processors, ultrafast memory, and support for 4K video, the new Mac Pro delivers state-of-the-art performance across the board.

  • Processor

The new Mac Pro is said to be upto 2 times faster than the previous generation packing the new-generation Intel Xeon E5 chipset. With configurations offering up to 12 cores of processing power, up to 40GB/s of PCI Express gen 3 bandwidth, and 256-bit-wide floating-point instructions,

  • Memory

It includes a four-channel DDR3 memory controller running at 1866MHz. It delivers up to 60GB/s of memory bandwidth up from the current 30GB/s the current line offers, which means you can fly through even the most compute-intensive tasks in no time. And since it’s ECC memory, your render job, video export, or simulation won’t be stopped by transient memory errors.

  • Graphics

Its features a state-of-the-art AMD FirePro workstation-class GPU with up to 6GB of dedicated VRAM — it features two of them. With all that power, you’ll be able to do things like seamlessly edit full-resolution 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background — and still have enough power to connect up to three high-resolution 4K displays. It packs upto 7 teraflops of computing power compared to the 2.7 teraflops.

  • Storage

No exact storage size was given aside from the type of storage that will be used. It will come with the next-generation PCI Express flash storage which is up to 2.5 times faster than the fastest SATA-based solid-state drive and up to 10 times faster than a 7200-rpm SATA hard drive.

Other features include a unified thermal core for maximum airflow from the center and out through the top of the machine. six Thunderbolt 2/Firewire ports which is 2 times as fast with 20Gb/s of bandwidth to each external device. four USB 3 ports, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a HDMi port.

The Mac Pro was unveiled as a sneak peak and is said to be coming later this year without an actual date. What do you think about this beastly desktop. Leave you comments below.

Apple unveiled its latest mobile operating system, iOS 7 at its Word wide developer conference (WWDC) which just kicked off yesterday. The highly anticipated OS which has been rumoured to sport a completely new look did just that. For the first time since the iPhone was announced, iOS in iOS 7 was given a UI overhaul.

  • All-new Design

iOS 7 went through a thorough facelift from the lock screen to every other inch of UI you will see on the display. The difference is good enough to make the experience brand new but still feel instantly familiar with the user. All the icons have been redesigned and colour schemes have been changed. You will also notice some cool new animations.

  • Control Center

Control center which can quickly be accessed by swiping from the bottom of the device is a panel which gives you quick access to controls and apps you tend to need right away. It allows you to turn or off Airplane mood, WiFi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, lock your screen’s orientation or adjust its brightness. Play, pause, or skip a song, connect to AirPlay-enabled devices and quickly access your flashlight, timer, calculator, and camera.

  • Notifications Center

Notifications center apart from the usual things it was capable of like show missed calls and texts it now lets you view a convenient summary of your day through a feature called ‘Today’. One glance at your iPhone and you’ll know if it’s a certain someone’s birthday, if you’ll need an umbrella, or if traffic will slow down your commute. You’ll even get a heads-up on tomorrow.

  • Multitasking

Multitasking was improved drastically in iOS 7. You can now see a preview of your last activity on that app at a glance and just flick it up to close it.

  • Camera

With a swipe you can switch between still, video, panorama and now square allowing you capture what you want the way you want it. It also adds filters so that you can add them to your picture instantly.

  • Photos

iOS7 brings Collections, Moments, and Years as a new, faster and easier way to scroll through your pictures. It allows for smart groupings of your photos and videos based on time and place. Tap Years and all your shots fill the screen. Each year holds Collections which are like group of pictures taking in different locations.

You can create a shared photo stream using iCloud to share your favorite moments with your favorite people. They can post photos, videos, and comments to your stream, and it all appears on everyone’s iOS devices — automatically. The new Activity view lets you see the latest updates from all your shared streams in one place.

  • AirDrop

AirDrop on iOS devices is Apple’s answer to file sharing when the other party is close by. instead of sending via text or email you can just  tap share and select AirDrop and anyone around there or in your contacts running iOS7 will pop up.

  • Safari

Safari now has unified smart search field stays hidden until you scroll to reveal it which will allow more space for content to be displayed and with a swipe, you can go back or forward a page. The browser also has a new Tab view where you can see your open web pages in a consolidated view that lets you scroll effortlessly from tab to tab. To close a page, just swipe it offscreen.

  • iTunes Radio

iTunes radio is a much anticipated music service that Apple has been working on for sometime now and it will finally be available in iOS 7. It is built into the Music app. The more you listen, the more personalized it becomes. View the History of everything you’ve heard or added to your Wish List. Then tap to download the songs you want from iTunes. You can also create custom stations.

  • App Store

A new feature of the App Store shows you a collection of popular apps relevant to your current location. And a new Kids category spotlights the best apps for children based on age. iOS 7 also keeps your apps up to date automatically, so you don’t have to bother. Another bonus of automatic updates: no more little red badge begging for your attention.

A few more noteworthy updates

  • Unlock the phone, and icons drift down
  • Revamped weather app shows dynamic weather animations onscreen; pinch for all-city overview
  • iCloud photo-sharing
  • iCloud keychain remembers sensitive data
  • Long MMS support
  • Swipe from day to day in Calendar
  • Phone, FaceTime, and Message blocking
  • View PDF annotations
  • Activation lock to protect against theft
  • Support for 60fps video capture
  • Airdrop from activity sheet

The devices that will support iOS7

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 5
  • iPad 2

Facebook announced a redesign of its famous news feed, giving users more control over what shows up and options to view updates from different categories of friends. The company says its aim is to reduce clutter.

Photos have become even more prominent in this design. They take more space than they ever have. Other stories from your friends and pages you like now have a fresh, new look with larger previews that hold more information.

facebook-newsfeed-4

Make no mistake, Facebook’s new newsfeed design is based on its mobile design. If you’re a regular Facebook mobile user, it’s the first thing that comes to mind when you see it. Switching between the news feed and your profile will now be done in a bar on your right.

Facebook has also said it’ll be porting the new newsfeed options to its mobile apps. So if you use Facebook for Android or iOS, you’ll get the new options soon.

facebook-newsfeed-1

For web users, Facebook has begun rolling it out to a few users and requesting feedback. You can join the waiting list at the bottom of this page. We’ll post a walkthrough of the new design as soon as we get it.

Here are Greg and other Facebook staffers explaining the newsfeed.

Facebook has continued to change certain elements in its design over the years and has stuck to its guts at doing so. What do you think about the new design of newsfeed? Do you like it?

A source known to be quite accurate gave us a glimpse of what Samsung has in-store for us on March 14th. Pictures posted from @evleaks Twitter account show what might be specs for the new Samsung Galaxy S IV, along with a rendering of the image of the phone which could potentially be the phone’s form factor. The specs detail a Super AMOLED Full HD screen of unknown size, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options with 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and Android 4.2 OS. Another image showed the same mockup lined with the previous Galaxy phones, also showing that it is bigger than the S III, which might confirm the rumours of a 5-inch screen.

Following the Twitter leak, another site, expansys.com detailed the specs of this new phone including a rumoured “eye scrolling feature” which would make allow users to scroll through pages with their eyes.

All this sounds good, but we still have to wait till March 14th to see if this is really what Samsung has in the pipes. Follow us on Twitter @Technesstivity for live updates from the Galaxy S IV unveil
