iMessage: What You Need To Know

Apple on Monday unveiled its new operating system for iDevices, the iOS 5 which has 200 features combined with that of the previous versions, but one of the features which might make a lot of people excited is the iMessage; its like BBM for iOS, it allows sending of instant messages, pictures, videos and also group conversation.

So how does it work? What form ID will be used to add people on it? Well for now it uses your Apple ID e-mail address as your ID and you can add people with Apple ID’s  as well, the iMessage is integrated into the Messages app on iOS but you can edit settings for it using the Settings app under iMessage: picture below

Also all messages you recieve will be pushed to devices that you’re logged into, this means that if you were chatting with a friend while using your iPad at home and you want to move out, simply pick up your iPhone and continue your conversation.

Another interesting fact is that Apple has made it easy to recognize anyone your messaging that is eligible for iMessage, hence the use of Apple ID e-mail address as ID, the app also works with the new Notifications center so can view all your messages when you’re not using iMessage, but the issue here is that notification’s for both Messages and iMessages both fall under the messages icon so its kind of difficult to recognize which is for which, but when popped  open, messages from iMessages show in blue bubbles.

iOS 5 is currently in BETA version and available only for developers, so i believe by the time its available for the public in the fall, Apple would have finalized some things on it such as the ID factor.

Well Apple has decided to take on RIM in the mobile to mobile messaging game, but my question is will Android also release a feature such as this in its next OS release? Please feel free to drop your comments and views.
