Samsung has announced an extension of its Windows Phone line: the Omnia M. The Omnia M is initially going to launch in Europe and features a 4-inch Super AMOLED display and 1GHz CPU. Its primary rear-facing camera is 5 megapixels while a secondary front-facing VGA camera is included.

To connect with other Samsung users, Samsung has included its ChatON app and AllShare. It’s also likely that video calling across Samsung phones might be supported.

Tigo’s acting General Manager, Obafemi Banigbe says, with its unlimited internet plans, subscribers can read news, search the internet, stream music and videos without the need to bother about their data plans maxing out.

Facebook recently announced that it will be launching “a place to find social web, desktop, and mobile apps” in form of its own App Centre.

This App Centre will not be for only Facebook apps but will serve as a portal for meeting all your app needs – Desktop, Mobile and Web. Facebook seems to be attempting to solve the problem of App Discovery which seems to plague most platforms today. They plan to do this by recommending apps to you based on what you and your friends have already shown previous interest in. This is something that Facebook is uniquely positioned to do due to its massive social graph, which will allow Facebook bring a unique and personalized selection of apps to each user.

Facebook makes it clear that they do not try to compete with Apple or Google’s App Store business as discovered iOS or Android apps will still redirect you to the respective app stores for purchase.

With this development, Facebook is positioning itself to become a massive app distribution centre and with a user base of around a billion people, it will be a platform that developers will find quite appealing.

We look forward to seeing what the App Centre looks like once it comes out of its current developer preview and is finally available to the public.

We’ve got news that Rocket Internet, one of Europe’s largest incubator companies, is opening an online fashion goods store in Nigeria.

The store will be called Sabunta and will allow users purchase designer branded goods online and have them delivered to a forwarding address. Sabunta’s website currently has a form accepting emails for it’s launch. It’s Facebook page is also live.

Rocket Internet was founded in Germany by the Samwer brothers and has a large portfolio of companies around the world. One of its companies, CityDeal was acquired by Groupon a while ago. Rocket Internet’s Alando was also purchased by eBay.

The company currently runs Zalado in Germany, Locondo in Japan, The Iconic in Australia and Zando in Zouth Africa.

The Galaxy S III sports an 8 megapixel rear camera capable of taking 20 shots in a second and a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera. Connection options include Blutetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC.

Samsung has spiced the original Android flavour a bit by retaining its TouchWiz interface. S Voice – Samsung’s Siri alternative is also included in the package. They claim it’s better than Siri. Samsung also included S-Beam: an NFC and WiFi connection option that lets you share a 10MB file in 10 seconds.

There’s a catch for Dropbox users. You get up to 50GB extra storage when you upgrade to a Galaxy S III. Also Flipboard’s Android app is launching on the S III first before it gets to other Android devices.

The device comes in options of Marble White and Pebble Blue will launch in 145 countries in partnership with 296 wireless carriers. The 3G HSPA+ version will in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East in May and a 4G version is expected to launch United States, Japan, and Korea in the summer of this year.

To view traffic reports on a certain road, you simply click on the road and a box showing the most recent updates from that road pops up. The map currently has legends for heavy traffic, medium traffic and low traffic. Other legends soon to be included are Bad Roads/Pot Holes, Construction Work, Accident and Criminal Activity.

The LGT website also contains business listings, business statistics and a page for movie listings at the cinema.

LGT was developed by HexGear – an information technology company founded in 2002. The company says Lagos traffic can be predicted to a level of accuracy depending on what parameters are inputed.

Efiko is on a roll. After winning CC-Hub’s Tech-In-Ed hackathon and raising additional $5000 funding from the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Efiko is one of the winners on the Nigerian Internet Group’s Internet For Jobs Initiative.

Earlier in the year, The Nigerian Internet group through its I4J initiative asked Nigerian internet entrepreneurs to submit internet solutions that solve social problems and have the potential to create jobs.  Winners were then chosen across the 5 categories of the competition.

Other winners include BudgIT[also from a CC-Hub hackathon] a website that makes it easier to understand government budgets via infographics, LearnThem allows students teach and learn together, TutorialClick –  a quiz website for UTME applicants  and Joggebuzz an SMS service.

RIM has officially unveiled the much anticipated BlackBerry 10 Operating System. The OS will run on upcoming BlackBerry devices which will hit stores later in the year.

The BlackBerry 10 runs on a QNX platform much like the PlayBook‘s. The company acquired QNX last year so they could make use of its technologies.

RIM also unveiled the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK with support for C/C++ and HTML5 via BlackBerry 10 WebWorks.

The new BlackBerry 10 devices will be touch only and will miss RIM‘s great physical keyboards. The company says it’s working on algorithms to learn how users type. On the upside, the keyboard on BlackBerry 10 devices work like SwiftKey’s keyboards, allowing users select predicted words as they tap letters to create sentences.

On the camera side, RIM seems to have added a bit of innovation. You can take a picture and then use a special timeline tool to move forward or backwards and select what image you need.
