In a statement released today, PayPal has announced that residents of Nigeria can now open accounts and perform transactions online. Nigerians will be able to pay on websites that accept PayPal but cannot initiate transfers or accept payments.
Other countries getting PayPal are Belarus, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro and Zimbabwe.
Rupert Keeley, senior vice President of PayPal Europe said
Paying with PayPal provides peace of mind, because people never have to expose their financial information during the transaction”
Nigerians, especially those in the technology industry have believed over the years that access to PayPal will put them at par with their peers across the world as they can accept and pay for access to content and tools. Right now, they cannot accept PayPal payments.
PayPal will roll out its services to the countries mentioned in a couple of days. I guess they couldn’t ignore the Nigerian market any longer.
