After Nigeria’s ‘game’ against Iran today in the World Cup, a lot of us kept the little hope we had up that Ghana would do us as Africans proud and defeat USA. Sadly, that didn’t happen, but at least they managed to score one goal.
Not long after the win, brands started sending out congratulatory tweets as they always do when there’s a major event. It’s a great marketing opportunity, you can’t blame them really. However, one brand’s tweet wasn’t well received by Africans especially. Delta Airlines decided to congratulate the USA with the scores against things that symbolized both countries and this is what they came up with:
You know, it’s Ghana. I’m pretty sure they don’t even have giraffes there! I did some research and confirmed the distribution of giraffes in Africa; none in Ghana. Delta has since deleted the tweet and apologized:
We’re sorry for our choice of photo in our previous tweet. Best of luck to all teams.

Oh the ignorance! It’s a giraffe gaffe! (So sorry. Couldn’t resist..)
On a scale of 1-10 how messed up do you think this is? Let us know!
