After Nigeria’s ‘game’ against Iran today in the World Cup, a lot of us kept the little hope we had up that Ghana would do us as Africans proud and defeat USA. Sadly, that didn’t happen, but at least they managed to score one goal. Not long after the win, brands started sending out congratulatory tweets as they always do when there’s a major event. It’s a great marketing opportunity, you can’t blame them really. However, one brand’s tweet wasn’t well received by Africans especially. Delta Airlines decided to congratulate theRead More

In the spirit of the World Cup which begins tomorrow, Twitter has activated ‘hashflags’ that display flags anytime you tweet a country’s short name with a hashtag. To make it easier to follow the games and events surrounding it, they’ve also created a special edition of their native apps on smartphones and their website that lets you follow tweets about the games in real time from players, coaches and commentators. The website has Twitter avatars and themes available to show your spirit for whichever team you support. It’s literally WorldRead More

On April 15, 2014, Boko Haram abducted over 200 girls from Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State. This wasn’t their first time attacking a school. Though about 50 of them managed to escape, the fate of the remaining girls remains undetermined. Reports say they have been forcefully married to their kidnappers. Many are outraged not only at the fact that Boko Haram is terrorizing the country, but at the fact that it has gone on for so long and has only intensified since the year began. According to theRead More

Twitter updated their mobile apps for Android and iOS with a few new stuff. The layout got a complete makeover, but the most notable update has to be letting users share photos via direct messages. Other features include adding users to favourites so you can get push notifications anytime they tweet. This could be done by turning notifications on from certain users, but they just made it a more prominent feature. I’m not a fan of the abrupt design overhaul, it looks nice but it’s gonna take a lotRead More

My Grouse With Twitter [OPINION]

I have a love hate relationship with Twitter. Maybe love is a strong word that should be replaced with something like necessity. As a writer who needs his voice heard, it’s pretty important. It helps in allowing me gauge public opinion during significant events. It also plants the seeds to some of my writing by sparking my thought process, and when I do create those pieces of writing, is there any quicker way to get people to read than through Twitter? Besides reminding us of people’s birthdays, Facebook’s power isRead More

Twitter in its blog post announced that it will let iOS and Android users add filters to pictures before tweeting them. The update will give users eight filters to choose from, the ability to crop images, and a feature that make your photos pop with balanced light and colors by tapping the wand button in the app. Funny how this announcement comes just a few days after we told you that Instagram stopped their photos from showing up on Twitter. How do you think this would play with Instagram usersRead More

For the second time in a week, photo sharing service Instagram, has cut off Twitter’s access to its photo cards. Last week, Instagram disabled the ability to view its photos on Twitter, and Twitter did a quick workaround to fix it. Users are reporting seeing blank spaces when they click “view photo” for an Instagram photo on Twitter, or on any of its third party apps. This is definitely a move to get more people to view Instagram’s recently launched web profiles but it seems to be shooting itself inRead More
