South African Government Plans ‘Smart City’ Tech Hub For Nasrec

Looks like the Suburb of Nasrec, Guateng is about to get its own technology hub. The provincial government has said at a press conference that an information and communications technology hub will be developed in the region. The government is working with local and international investors to make the hub a manufacturing centre for ICT.

Economic Development MEC, Qedani Mahlangu told reporters IT companies in South Africa have about 200,000 vacanices for skilled people. She hopes the tech hub at Nasrec will develop people and fill jobs.

 

The provincial government is working witht the University of Witwatersrand and other higher institutions on how they can train and develop the youth and fill jobs.

The government had secured Investors for a film and animation studio, a multimedia centre, a data centre, a training centre and a knowledge centre for research and development. A ‘green’ residential area will surround Smart City and will be operated off the electricity grid.
