As the dust settles on the death of one of the greatest minds of our generation, Walter Isaacson’s  biography of the late CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs reveals some shocking  details about the man. The physical copy of the book which was released on Monday is expected to be the top selling book of Amazon for the year 2011. In his book, Jobs exclusively reveals to Isaacson how he hated Google and how he tried to help Obama. Below are some of the shocking revelations that came out from the book:

1) He regretted delaying cancer surgery:  In October 2003, after being diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer, Jobs pushed back having surgery for 9 months, instead he decided to try alternative forms of therapy. Years later he admits to Isaacson that he felt “a hint of regret” on not having the surgery. “He wanted to talk about it, how he regretted it… I think [at the time] that he kind of felt that if you ignore something, if you don’t want something to exist, you can have magical thinking.” Isaacson was quoted as saying of Jobs in an interview with 60 minutes.

2) He did not think much of Bill Gates: “Bill is basically unimaginative and has never invented anything, which is why I think he’s more comfortable now in philanthropy than technology. He just shamelessly ripped off other people’s ideas.” Jobs thought that Bill Gates was a rip off who took credit of other people’s ideas. Jobs once declared about Mr. Gates: “He’d be a broader guy if he had dropped acid once or gone off to an ashram when he was younger.” Only if the two of them could get along.

All smiles here

3) At the age of 13, Steve Jobs rejected the religion of Christianity. After seeing starving children on the cover of Life Magazine, he asked his pastor if God knew about these children. He never went back to church after that, he later went to study Zen Buddhism later in life.

4) He did not shower enough for someone that important: When Jobs founded Apple in 1976, he and co-founder Steve Wozniak hired Micheal Scott to work as the CEO of the team. One of the first things Scott did was order Jobs to shower more frequently; a task he did not really succeed at.

5) On Google’s Android: “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” Jobs told his biographer, Isaacson. Jobs claimed that many of the innovations in the Android, made by Google, are taken from the iPhone features.  Apple later sued Google in what has become an ongoing mobile patent war between the two brands. “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this”. Eric Schmidt, who served as an Apple board member from 2006 to 2009, and also a former Google CEO, tried to settle the lawsuit by offering Apple money. Jobs responded by saying “I don’t want your money. If you offer me $5 billion, I won’t want it. I’ve got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that’s all I want.”

Undoubtedly a great man, Steve Jobs was a man who was already to pick up a fight whenever he felt he was right. RIP Steve Jobs. What do you think about all these revelations, are you shocked that Jobs and Gates did not get along? Let us know in the comment section below. The biography can be purchased here.

ROONEY!! FIFA 12 is here, or at least the demo is. The sight of Rooney kicking the ball into a net, like he does every year, to start the FIFA game was thrilling to say the least.

In case you didn’t get to know, a free demo of FIFA 12 was released to the public yesterday. For PlayStation users, the demo can be downloaded from the PlayStation store.

Although only 5 teams can be used in the demo: Dortmund, Arsenal, Milan, Man City and Barcelona, the demo still provides an exciting preview of FIFA 12. There are a lot of changes in this game compared to FIFA 11. Long time FIFA co-commentator, Andy Gray, has been replaced (due to the controversy surrounding him in the beginning of the year) by ex Arsenal striker, Alan Smith. The ever present Martin Tyler partners with him in commentating in the game.

Tyler to the left, and Smith to the right

Another big change is the increase rating of players. Normally in FIFA, the best player in the game (for the past two years it has been Messi and Ronaldo) has a 90 rating, but in the demo Messi has a rating of 95. Yes, that’s right 95; his fellow Barcelona team mates Xavi and Iniesta both have ratings of 92. Obviously Barcelona is the best team in the game.

Also, the defending in the game seems to be different than normal. It’s harder and more advanced. So advanced that before you start playing the game, an in-depth tutorial on how to defend is offered. I was so eager to check out the demo that I skipped the tutorial, oh boy was that a big mistake. I almost conceded in the 2nd minute as I did not know that a new defending skill called ‘contain’ (which I still don’t know how to use) had been added to the game. It became easier as the game went on, I managed to win my first ever game on FIFA 12 on penalties. You know the quick free kick that was introduced to the game a couple of years back? Well quick throw ins have also been introduced; so don’t drop your controller, your opponent might just take advantage of that.

Overall, I can’t wait for the release of the full game on the 27th of this month. Like most FIFA addicts, I have already pre-ordered the game and you should do so as well in case you have forgotten. A complete review of the game would be available on the night of its release. Sadly, people who live in Europe will have to wait at least another two days to get the game. The earliest release date there is scheduled for the 29th.

Have you played the demo yet? What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below. As for me, I’m going back to play FIFA.

Step aside Lady Gaga, there is a new Queen of Facebook in town, and no her name is not Rebecca Black she is Robyn Rihanna Fenty or just Rihanna to the masses.

According to Famecount’s aggregated rankings, which adds up the total number of Facebook likes, YouTube views and Twitter followers, Gaga is number one with Rihanna not to far behind at number 3, sandwiched in between the two is some kid called Justin Bieber.

So what do you think, would the Fame Monster catch up to Rihanna or will RiRi continue to amass more likes on Facebook than Gaga? Let us know what you think in the comment section below

Five years ago to the day, the first full version of Twitter was introduced to the public. To mark the occasion, the company has released some interesting facts to show how much they have grown in 5 years. “Currently, about 600,000 people sign up for a Twitter account every day, but it took Twitter almost a year-and-a-half to attract its first 600,000 members’, the company said in its official Twitter feed.

In its first day, 224 tweets were sent by users which is the amount that is sent every one tenth of a second nowadays. According to the company’s engineering team users send 350 billion tweets everyday. ”Delivering 350 billion Tweets a day is a terribly fun engineering challenge. But, it doesn’t capture how passionate our users are,” the post by Twitter’s Engineering team says.

The company also announced this week that it now has more than one million registered apps, compare to just 150,000 it had last year. That is an app created every 1.5 seconds. Also there were 600,000 sign ups to twitter just yesterday alone whereas it took 16 months for twitter to have 600,000 accounts to be created.

Twitter is now rumored to be worth about $7 billion, although it has not gone public yet and does not seem to be planning to in the near future. Personally I believe, that although Google+ has been created, (which is meant to rival Twitter) Twitter would still be around and running for a long while.

So whether we use it to talk about the latest movies in cinema, find out the score of sport matches or just use it to gossip, most of us cannot do without Twitter. So from us at Technesstivity, Happy Birthday Twitter.

To see how Twitter has affected the world, here are 10 of the most important tweets ever.

So how do you think Twitter would look in 5 years? Would it still be one of the social networking sites in the world? Let us know in the comments below.

You may have noticed that Dear Netflix became a trending topic on Twitter yesterday, well this is because Netflix has decided to increase the price of renting a DVD. In a blog released yesterday, Jessie Becker, the VP of Marketing of Netflix, informed users of  the changes. The plans that allowed users to combine streaming and DVD rental is gone. Users were previously allowed to select the streaming plan for just $7.99 with an additional $2 to get the DVD rental package. Now the two plans have been separated, users still pay $7.99 for the rental service but they now have to pay an extra $7.99 to acquire the DVD package. In all to get both users have to pay $15.98 instead of the $9.99 they used to pay. In numerical terms that is a 60% hike in prices. For people like me who already use Netflix, the changes won’t kick in until September 1st but for new customers, the changes start immediately.

The company points to a large continuing increase in the demand or DVD’s to be the major reason why there is an increase in the price. (But isn’t it meant to be the other way around, the higher the demand, the lower the price). Netflix also attributed the hike in price due to the DVD rental becoming a proper business rather than an add on.

Not surprisingly, users of the product were not thrilled with this idea. Thousands of fans wrote on the Facebook wall, most of them angered by the change, users also commented on the Netflix blog citing their frustration at the company. A lot of users have threatened, that if there is no change or price reduction, to stop using Netflix.  I’m pretty sure that Netflix’s competitors such as Red Box and Blockbuster are smiling at the backlash the company is getting.

Personally, Dear Netflix, although I enjoy using your service to watch shows like Arrested Development at 7am, i find this price hike to be too sudden and disrespectful to the users. So please do something about it. Thank you.

What do you think about this change? Have you become so fond of Netflix that this change wont affect your use of Netflix or is the hike too ridiculous to continue using Netflix? Let us know in the comments below?

Myspace once used to be the top social networking website in the world, but then came along Facebook and well the rest is history. News corp which acquired the company back in 2005, for a whooping $580 million, has decided to cut its losses and sell the company to Specific Media, and advertising firm, for just $35 million. News corp would also receive a 5% stake in specific media.

In a memo released, CEO Mike Jones announced to his staff about the details of the sale, while also thanking them for their hard work, time and dedication over the past few years. The company’s revenue for this year is expected to be just more than $180 million well below its peak of $605 million. That just signifies how the company has fallen in recent years.

According to reports there is going to be a huge staff cut as about 50% of the site’s staff including Mike Jones, the CEO. Specific Media was not clear as to what was going to happen to the company, all their CEO Tim Venderhook would acknowledge was that the companies would combine their platforms. It is also rumored that the company plans to focus on just music.

What do you think about this sale, is it possible for My space to ever reach the heights it was once on before or is it little to late for that? Let us know below.

More details about the sale can be found here

He may not longer be the richest man in the world (Carlos Slim is number one richest man in the world) but Bill Gates is still one of the most influential people in the world. In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, which I strongly recommend you read, Bill Gates revealed some personal details that have not been shared with most people. In case you are to lazy to read the whole article, here are 10 details one might find interesting:

Gates and Allen

1. The second richest man in the world did not finish college, he dropped out of Harvard in 1975, after being convinced by Paul Allen to start some company called Microsoft. Microsoft is now worth 224.01 billion dollars.

2. His kids tease him with the song ‘Billioniare’ by Bruno Mars. Bill Gates has been on the cover of Forbes so many times, he is close friends with Oprah and for the Queen, Bill got knighted by her back in 2005.

B. Gates being knighted

3. He has three children, Jennifer, 15, Rory, 12 and Phoebe, 9. According to reports they are set to only inherit 10 million dollars each from their dad. That is about 0.0006% of his worth, he plans on giving the rest to charity.

4. What car does he drive? Surprisingly, he does not drive any flashy car instead he drives a “normal” Mercedes. “I drive myself around town in a normal Mercedes. I’ve had a Lexus. The family has a Porsche, which is a nice car that we sometimes take out. We have a minivan and that’s what we use when it’s the five of us”  Gates said.

5. Although he retired from Microsoft in 2008 to concentrate on his foundation and spend time with his family, he is still part-time involved with the company. Speaking about his foundation, he has donated more than 24 billion dollars to his foundation.

6. He is public shy and socially awkward. Although he built a multi-billion dollar company, he rarely conducts interviews and he is unaware of the social niceties of life

7. Gates has not always lived the perfect life, in 1975 he got arrested for driving without a license.

8. 1994 was a significant year in the life of Bill, his mother died of breast cancer which inspired him to start his foundation in that year. It was also the same year he married his wife, Melina, whom he met at a Microsoft press event in Manhattan. His dad is still alive though and works as the co-chair of his foundation.

His mother, Mary

His wife, Melinda

His father, William

9. Gates is a devoted reader. He has a library full of old books and prefers to read the hard copy rather than the electronic one. In 1994 he bought the Codex Leicester, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s notebook, for 30.8 million dollars. He also has some documents by Isaac Newton and Abraham Lincoln.

10. He has his own Twitter account and Facebook page, although he had a problem with Facebook, because the friend requests got out of hand. He is friends with Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, who has also pledged to give most of his fortune away.

He rounded off the interview by saying ‘hey, if being a geek means you’re willing to take a 400-page book on vaccines and where they work and where they don’t, and you go off and study that and you use that to challenge people to learn more, then absolutely. I’m a geek. I plead guilty. Gladly.’

You can read the whole interview here.

“You will automatically be upgraded to New Twitter very, very soon.” That was the message i woke up to this morning when I tried to switch back to to the old Twitter. If you still use the old version of Twitter, get ready to move on and start getting used to the new Twitter. The old Twitter would soon be no more. Although the new version of Twitter has been active for the past nine months, Twitter users have still been allowed to switch back to the old twitter.

There has been mixed feelings on the idea of no more old twitter. Some users think its about time the change took place while others still prefer that the old twitter remains for a while. With visible DM Count and it being easier to check retweets, one can understand why some people are complaining about the change but its been 9 months since the new twitter was introduced, that should be enough time to get used to the new Twitter.

Promoted Tweets.

In other Twitter related news, the company hinted at the Cannes Lions award this week that promoted tweet could show up on your Timeline even though you do not follow the account. Looks like a lot of changes happening with Twitter in the coming weeks.

I already see a lot of spam tweets on my timeline, which is very annoying, so seeing promoted tweets from random people would just increase the frustration. Twitter should find another way to generate money from another source as this could cause revolts from people

What do you think about this two moves by Twitter. Does the idea of not being able to switch to the old Twitter frighten you? Or do you think this should have happened a while back? Also does the thought of seeing random tweets on your timeline piss you off, or your timeline is so busy that you would not notice one or two random tweets per day. Leave your opinions in the comments below or better still tweet at us at @Technesstivity.
