IROKOtv Goes Live: Africa’s Netflix?
Since Netflix and other streaming services have refused to give us eye, IROKOtv is a brilliant idea and since Iroko partners already has deals with many movie producers and marketers, you’re sure of getting fresh content. You can currently search for content based on Movie Category or the name of your favorite Actor or via a search bar at the top of the site.
Iroko Partners has deals with over 40 Nigerian artistes to control their video content online. Music videos shouldn’t be afar off. IROKOtv could also stream TV shows in the long run, so if you’re away from home, you don’t miss a thing.
When the free streaming ends,IROKOtv might charge users a fee to view content or remain free and show ads to users instead. You can currently sign up via your Facebook or Twitter account.
IROKOtv has realised that streaming these movies on YouTube can be to its detriment, as the YouTube channel for Nollywood Love runs on a YouTube ad partnership which can go wrong when Google launches a special YouTube for Nigeria. Also, Iroko partners has no control over subscriptions via YouTube. We’re not sure however if the Nollywood Love channel will be discontinued.
We’re hoping IROKOtv launches mobile apps soon so I can watch some movies while I’m stuck on the Island traffic. That won’t happen until the ISPs offer us real broadband though. IROKOtv currently advises a minimum speed of 500kbps to stream videos without hitches. The YouTube Nollywood Love channel currently sees 90% of its visits from The EU, North America, The Carribean and The Middle East and made over $1 Million in revenue within its first year.
Sorry Netflix, you just missed Africa . What do you think about this service? Leave us a comment.
