Twitter Now Showing Promoted Tweets From Accounts You Don’t Follow

Twitter has begun to allow advertisers using Promoted Tweets to show their tweets to people who don’t follow them. Brands and advertisers can indicate that they would like Twitter to show Promoted Tweets to users similar to their followers. Similarities are established via Twitter’s interest graph. The graph is a collection of data based on who the user follows, how the user tweets, what topics the user retweets most and a bunch of other stuff.

You won’t be able to opt-out of these tweets but you’ll be able to ‘Dismiss’ them from your timeline. Like the earlier Promoted Tweets, tweets will appear in your timeline once. At the top or near the top of your timeline. It’ll then be able to be scrolled down the timeline like a normal tweet.

Twitter users, what do you think about this new service? Are you going to feel interrupted while tweeting? Leave us a comment.
