Unofficial VLC Media Player Beta Hits Android
Chances are, you clicked the link because you already have VLC on your computer and you know how awesome it plays almost any media file. A developer has builtVLC For Android up to a Beta stage and has been released for Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich on specific phone chipsets. Here are the chipsets it works on the ARMv6/ARM11, ARMv7a/Cortex-A8/NEON and ARMv7a/Cortex-A9. So you’ve got to check what processor your Android phone runs on before downloading any of the files. Here’s what he means by that list
- Snapdragon S1 → ARM11
- Snapdragon S2/S3 → Cortex-A8/NEON
- Snapdragon S4 → Cortex-A9
- Tegra 2 → Cortex-A9
- Hummingbird → Cortex-A9 (Current gen. only)
- OMAP3 → Cortex-A8/NEON
- OMAP4 → Cortex-A9
Basically, there are a bunch of different VLC Beta files for you to download. The OMAP4 file is for Galaxy Nexus, DROID RAZR, Bionic, DROID 4 and DROID 3 users. The OMAP3 is for Gingerbread on Droid X and the OG Droid. The Tegra 2 file for Ice Cream Sandwich on the Droid X2 and Asus’ Transformer. The Snapdragon S2 for all phones running that processor, including HTC Incredible and HTC Thunderbolt and Sony’s Xperia Play. The Snapdragon S3 powers Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC’s Rezound and finally the Hummingbird for Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, the Nexus S and the DROID Charge.
