Facebook Wins Yet Another Suit Against the Winklevii

A U.S district judge has dismissed a second lawsuit by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss against Facebook, where they sought to increase their earlier $65 Million settlement they received from Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg. The case was dismissed on Friday, a month after the Winklevii and Divya Narendra abandoned an appeal to the U.S Supreme Court.

If you’ve seen the movie ‘The Social Network’, you’ll know that the Winklevii and Divya Narendra allege that Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for a social network ‘Harvard Connection’ which he used to create Facebook, now worth $100 billion. The twins opposed the settlement in 2008 arguing that Facebook hid information that revealed the value of their stock. The Winklevii claimed they were led to believe the 1.2million units they received were worth almost $36 each, when they were actually worth $8.80. In late 2010, the Ninth Court of Appeals ruled that the settlement would stand.

A few days ago, former President of Harvard, Larry Summers was quoted calling the Winklevii “a*&holes”. He said,

“One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o’clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they’re looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an a*&hole. This was the latter case.”

The Winklevii and Narendra quickly replied with an open letter  to the current Harvard University President. Lots of time on their hands don’t you think?

Quick Opinion: These guys need to stop acting like a bunch of bullies who want candy from kids at a playground. They’ve got $65Million and they need to have sat down since 2008 and done something about it. If they hadn’t spent so much time chasing Zuckerberg since 2004, maybe they’ll be worth much more and maybe ConnectU will actually show up on the first page of its Google Search.  They might as well begin to sue every social network after Facebook and claim that they stole the idea of Facebook who stole the idea from them.
