Google Announces Bouncer To Prevent Malware From Android Market

Google’s Android team has announced Bouncer. Bouncer is a new security feature that will help prevent malware from making it into Android Market.

Bouncer provides automated scanning of Android Market so application developers don’t have to wait through a long application process like Apple’s App Store. It’s also good for the users and should increase trust when downloading apps.

Hiroshi Lockheimer, Android engineering VP also said that Bouncer has been in use for a while which has led to a 40% drop in Android Market malware.

Lockheimer said Bouncer runs every application and simulates how the app will run on Android devices which makes it easier to find malicious software. The feature also screens developer accounts and can prevent repeat offenders from introducing apps in to Android Market.
