Buying the iPhone 4S: My Experience
The iPhone 4S launched this morning, and I am happy to say I am now a proud owner of a white, 16GB iPhone 4S. Getting this Phone was as much an experience as my first hands-on with it.
I live in Ottawa, ON Canada and the iPhone 4S went sale at the Apple store at 8AM, Friday morning. In order to be assured of getting one, I arrived at the Apple store at 4:15AM expecting to be one of the first in line. How wrong I was, when I arrived at the store, there was a line of at least, a hundred people waiting outside the mall, in the rain, for the doors to open. I was genuinely surprised. It turns out that the first person in line arrived at the line at 8PM the previous night! (Guys get time sha….)
The mall doors opened at 5AM on the dot and we rushed in out of the rain to the relative warmth of the Rideau Centre. As a correct Naija guy, I made sure to jump to the front of the line as soon as I could. From the like, 150th position, I ended up at the 14th position in line, chatting with all the early comers and sharing stories of how none of us have lives. It was actually a wonderful bonding experience between all the Apple fanboys (and girls) of Ottawa.
We waited in that line for roughly 3 hours and there were apple employees waiting right along with us. The Apple store staff offered us water and kept the whole thing quite organized, going through the line, to find out what each costumer wanted to buy and giving them a pre-printed card containing the name of the specific device> It seems they had a card for each device they had in stock.
After a fairly long time sitting on the floor, at about a quarter to 8, the Apple store staff came running out from behind the store all happy and excited (Still trying to figure out why. It’s not like they’ve been up all night or anything… Oh wait…). They ran down the line screaming and generally being upbeat, and the ran all the way back. It was entertaining at the very least.
Finally, at 8AM, the store opened and we were let in with quite a bit of fanfare. There were TV news crews and Rogers reps. It was all very exciting. Walking through the store, the line moved fairly quickly and we were quickly paying the $733(After a 13% tax) and going home to a well deserved nap.
