Nintendo: The Hack Attacks Continue

The hackers strike again! and this time it is the Japanese gaming giant, Nintendo, who have no history of such attacks. The group of hackers responsible are known as Lulzsec; they managed to penetrate the security of a Nintendo server in the United States. I suggest you remember that name(Lulzsec) because we might be hearing about more of their ventures in the near future. The group has also claimed responsibility for the infiltration of Sony Pictures, a site which is associated with the FBI and the servers for the hacking magazine known as 2600. Lulzsec claims that this is just the beginning and promises more “releases”-by which, I assume they mean more hack attacks.

Nintendo device owners may remain calm however, because no sensitive information has been compromised. The attacks are nowhere near the scale of that of the Playstation Network. The group admitted on their twitter page: “Re: Nintendo, we just got a config file and made it clear that we didn’t mean any harm. Nintendo had already fixed it anyway. <3 them,”. Despite being a rampaging hacking crew, you have to admire their cheeky sense of humour. For some more comic relief i suggest you visit their site here.

Though the attacks were relatively harmless, Nintendo and its supporters should be keeping an eye out for any more such break-ins as Nintendo just launched the e-Shop, which will provide games for the Nintendo 3Ds for purchase and download. The attack may have opened up a possibility for an infiltration of this service as well but Nintendo spokesman, Ken Toyoda, has acknowledged this and said, “We are always working to make sure our systems are secure,”.

What do you think about these hack attacks? Are Xbox owners starting to panic? Please leave any comments below.
