The BlackBerry Z10 finally launched last week. There has been a massive media buzz for the Z10 and it’s BlackBerry 10 OS but in this article we’re going to outline a few points to note if you are a gamer and considering the Z10 as your next mobile smartphone.

Little over medium-sized screen
At 355 ppi, 4.2 inches and with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels, the Z10′s screen isn’t as big as the glorious HTC One X  which sports a 4.7 inch and way bigger than a Samsung Galaxy Ace which is 3.5 inches, but get this, the Z10 boasts a higher pixel per-invg than the One X and more lateral pixels. That’s like getting all the One X’s incredible visuals then compressing it just a bit and making it even more beautiful. The Z10 screen is just right for gaming. Call it HD if you will.

Just enough power
The Z10 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Dual-core clocking at 1.5Ghz coupled with an Adreno 225 GPU, the Z10 hasn’t been properly benchmarked yet simple because the benchmarking apps available to Android and iOS aren’t available yet.

To give to you a sense of scale, the Samsung Galaxy S III has the same processor, and that’s not slow but it’s no longer cutting edge. What defines cutting edge? iPhone 5 and Nexus 4. That said, the S III (and Z10) have enough raw power for most of today’s mobile games, but they aren’t pushing the performance envelope these days, and they have a bit less graphical power than other phones in the same price range.

Anything Else?
Yes, the Z10 can render at 1080p resolution to capable TV’s and monitors via microHDMI port. It has a Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery which more or less standard for similar priced phones. It’s way more than the iPhone 5′s 1440 mAh, not quite touching the Nexus 4′s 2100 mAh. But do note that the power management and drain due to internal components will make this comparison not so accurate, just rough enough to make decisions.

Will there be games to play?

Looks promising, BlackBerry, has announced a gaming partner. GameLoft will be porting 11 games in the near future to the new mobile OS. GameLoft will help dramatically increase the gaming selection for the BlackBerry. Some of the titles that will be ported include: The Amazing Spider Man, UNO, Six Guns, N.O.V.A 3, and Real Soccer 2013.

With any luck the competition i.e EA Mobile, Digital Chocolate and Glu Mobile will jump on the band wagon.

The Verdict
The word is “promising”, the Z10 has just the right power, just the right visuals and just the right media attention to turn it into not just a really good comeback for BlackBerry but also a great gaming phone.

Not convinced? Let us know your thoughts below. For the latest on Blackberry Z10 and Q10, keep it right here on Technesstivity.

PC making giants, Dell, confirms that it is going private in a $24.4 billion, or $13.65 a share deal. Dell’s Founder and CEO Michael Dell, who has 14 percent of Dell shares teamed up with Silver Lake Partners to acquire the company while Microsoft is also pushing in a $2 billion loan.

The deal is subject to shareholder approval and should be wrapped up before the close of Dell’s fiscal second quarter, which ends in July. If approved, the deal would be the largest corporate privatization since the financial crisis. The deal will allow the company to try to turn itself around without the pressure of shareholder expectations.

Upon completion of the deal, Michael Dell will continue to lead the company as CEO. He also will maintain a significant equity investment in the company by contributing his shares of Dell to the new company, as well as by making a “substantial,” additional cash investment.

Dell and rival Hewlett-Packard have had trouble competing with up-and-coming Asian rivals like Lenovo and Asus. Lenovo in late 2011 surpassed Dell to become the world’s second-largest provider of PCs. The company has said it remains committed to the PC market and that this deal is aimed at giving the company the time to turn itself around.

Instagram now extends its arms longer to the web as it announced its “feeds” are now available on the web for its users. In a blog post, Kevin Systrom, the company’s co-founder said that they have been wanting to build this for quite sometime now.

Instagram was built mobile only for specific reason, to share experiences on the go and has steadily grown with that belief. Instagram’s vast growth resulted in the company’s first move at web last year when it launched its web profiles which allowed users and non users to view people’s instagram pages on the web but did not have the ability for  to scroll down your timeline to see what your friends have posted. You can now do this, like a picture and comment when you go to Instagram.com and log in. However, you still need an iOS or Android device to upload pictures.

Lets know what you think about the step Instagram has taken.

After almost five months after the launch of the iPhone 5 an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1 has finally been released. Credit for the Jailbreak goes to a team of hackers known as Evad3rs.

The Jailbreak called “evasi0n” released just about a week after iOS 6.1 is the first to supports all devices which run iOS 6.0 and 6.1 except the 3rd gen Apple Tv and the tool supports Mac OSX 10.5 or higher, Windows XP or higher and Linux systems.

Being “untethered” means you can safely reboot your device without having to worry about losing your jailbreak or any of the built-in features, as opposed to a “tethered” jailbreak that requires you to plug your device into a computer and re-run the jailbreaking app anytime you reboot it.

Below are a list of devices that support this Jailbreak;

If you need help with the process this video can guide you through.

The next generation of video game machines might be coming really soon as Sony will host a big event for the PlayStation on the 20th of February in New York. This makes many believe this would be the stage where the company would unveil the successor to the PlayStation 3.

Attached to the invitation is a short teaser video that consists only of a trippy flythrough of the iconic PlayStation shapes but no other detail to hint us in any direction. Reports also point that Sony and Microsoft already planned to debut their consoles before E3 2013.

logoConcept-14062012-APPROVED-01We just heard MIH invested in Nigerian online retailer, Konga. Our source did not include financial details of this deal, but it’s significant enough for MIH to cancel its MoMall project in Nigeria.
The deal was sealed in October 2012 and will be officially announced in February this year. In December 2012, TechLoy hinted at the possibility of MIH investing in locally grown Konga or foreign-owned Jumia.

For Konga, this is funding to increase its product base or acquire smaller e-commerce companies like it did with 3Stitches. Konga can also leverage on MIH’s connections and experience across Africa and expand into other countries.

For MIH, it takes the pressure off building an e-commerce store from scratch (or using an e-commerce support service), figuring out the best delivery logistics and marketing the website.

MIH Internet Africa, the digital arm of media giant Naspers is known for launching websites like Mocality and OLX across Africa. Revenue from these websites is largely from advertisement and is based on pageviews and clicks.

Last month, we reported that MIH has plans to shutdown Mocality Nigeria and Mocality Kenya. We’re waiting for an official takedown of both websites as Mocality operations have been brought to a halt in both offices.

The pageviews from these websites are clearly not enough to sustain them at present, but we’re hoping MIH is looking at the future with OLX. With financial backing from their investors, they can go for the long haul.

Hopefully, the future doesn’t look like Kalahari and Mocality.

It’s worth noting that Konga and Jumia are backed by Kinnevik – a Swedish Venture Capital firm.

For players in the local e-commerce space, like JP Morgan’s investment in Jumia, MIH’s investment in Konga is validation that there is a market. We’ll be seriously watching this space in 2013.
