Safaricom Brings Vodafone’s Facebook Phone To Kenya

Vodafone 555 Facebook Phone

Vodafone 555 a.k.a the Facebook Phone is now available from Safaricom in Kenya. The phone is similar to HTC’s Status and features a dedicated Facebook button. Remember how Mark Zuckerberg talked about hacking phones so everything on them is social? Well this phone does that pretty well.

Manufactured by Alcatel for Vodafone and its affiliates, the Facebook Phone prompts users to login to Facebook as soon as it’s switched on. Other key features are the Messages and Phonebook apps with dedicated sections for Facebook messages and phone numbers of your Facebook friends.

The phone runs on a 200 MHZ Processor with 40MB of internal storage. There’s a microSD slot allowing storage expansion up to 16GB as well as a 2 Megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and capable of recording video. It features a qwerty keyboard below its 2.4-inch screen and lacks 3G support. Other connection options include Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and USB 2.0.

This phone is clearly for Facebook addicts and costs a low end price of Ksh 6,999($83) from Safaricom.
