BlackBerry Z10: First Impressions

BlackBerry-z10-2

BlackBerry’s first BlackBerry 10 device – the Z10 came in yesterday. I didn’t get to use it until today though. So here are a few thoughts from the couple of hours I’ve used it.

New BBM

I love the new interface of BBM. It retains all the features of the old BBM but it’s now so much more elegant. I also love how all my BBM contacts from my old phone were automatically added. There’s also a suggested friends feature – it searches for contacts in my email address book and checks them with their BlackBerry ID and PIN. That’s pretty awesome.

Keyboard

I use SwiftKey Flow for Android so it’ll take a while to get used to the next word prediction on the Z10. The screen is just large enough. I’ve also noticed some words I type on SwiftKey are showing up as predictions here. I don’t know how they did that.

Camera

The camera seems great for 8 megapixels. There’ll be more details on that in the full review.

BlackBerry Hub and Peek

Having all your messages in one place is always a great idea. I also like that Peek makes notifications show on the side instead of a section in the top bar.

Apps

Foursquare, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook all come pre-installed. For Facebook and Twitter, I’ve noticed they look just like their Android and iPhone counterparts. Someone just told me WhatsApp isn’t available in App World. I’m hoping to download some games.

That’s all for now. I’ll lay down all my thoughts in the full review next week.
