YouTube Gets A Makeover

YouTube recently started rolling out its new design to users. The ‘Recommended’ tab is still on the right of the homepage but if you’re signed in, you’ll notice the subscriptions tab is more organized. It’s now front and center like a timeline sort of view. The section where YouTube used to have videos ‘Recommended For You’ is no more – that I’ll definitely miss. To the left you can find channels you’re subscribed to. Looks to me like they tried to make that seem like a social sidebar. Below that are links to trending videos, categories you may be interested in and suggested channels.

As for the video viewing page, the only major tweak was the statistics button beside the number of views the video has. The button shows you the stats of the video; where people are viewing it, referral links, demographics etc. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same.

As usual, they pushed the promotion of Google+ by putting a link on the sidebar on the homepage. The background is a whitish grey now and they pretty much used the same concept of the latest designs they rolled out for Gmail and Google Reader.

Another change is the favicon which is now the ‘play’ button in red and white instead of the usual stacked YouTube logo.
