Helios Acquires Multilinks

ThisdayLive reports that Helios Investment Partners (HIP) has announced the formal acquisition of 100% stake in Multilinks from Telkom South Africa. HIP is one of Africa’s largest private investment firms with assets of over $1.9 billion.

This comes after months of legal tussle over an attempted breach of contract for the construction of a Base Transceiver Station for Multilinks. There’s no concrete figure of how much Multilinks cost but we assume HIP’s acquisition of Multilinks will position the firm to deliver better services. Maybe we’ll even get real broadband.

Multilinks currently runs on a terrestrial fibre-optic network connecting 21 out of 36 states in Nigeria. This costs over $150 Million and spans 8,232km of cable. Multilinks also sells bandwith out of its fibre optic networks to carriers and enterprise consumers.
