‘Seinfeld’, The Most Common Password Among Others

There’s been a lot of hacking incidents lately, but it’s not always a bad thing. Sometimes, they help to point out faults in security, helping security get tighter and securing personal information we give to websites.

The LulzSec ‘hacktivist’ group (responsible for most of the recent hacking), stole about a million usernames and passwords when they hacked Sony.

Sony had left them all unencrypted in plain text and security researcher Troy Hunt did some research and got some crazy results. He found that 93% of the people choose passwords ranging between 6-10 characters as opposed to the required 8. Also, most of us tend to use a single character type, using no variations in the type-case.

The most commonly used password, turned out to be “Seinfeld”, followed by “password” and “123456”. Crazy right?

Take your passwords seriously people!

-Put it in upper and lower case: TeChNeSsTiViTy

-Add numbers and symbols: Technesstivity1!

-Or mix them all up: TeChNeSsTiViTy1!

Have a secure cyber life.
