Google Unveils Premium Chromebook Pixel [PHOTOS + SPECS]
Google unveiled the Chromebook Pixel – its very own premium version of its Chromebook suite of laptops.
The Chromebook Pixel is the first Chromebook manufactured by Google. Other Chromebooks have been manufactured by Samsung, HP and Acer.
The Chromebook Pixel has a Gorilla Glass protected touchscreen of 12.85-inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels. It’s also got a 3:2 aspect ratio. At 239 pixels per inch, Google calls this the highest resolution of any laptop.
On the inside, the Chromebook Pixel is powered by a Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and an Intel HD 4000 graphics card. Google says it’ll play multiple videos of 1080p at the same time. Its webcam can even record videos at 720p.
Internal storage stands at 32GB for the WiFi version and 64GB for the LTE version. For three years, each user will get 1TB free of Google Drive space. Users in the US also get 12 free sessions of GoGo’s Inflight Internet service and 100 MB/month for 2 years of broadband on Verizon Wireless(LTE model).

For connection, the Pixel has two USB 2.0 ports, a Mini Display Port, a 3.5mm headset port and an SD card slot. WiFi is amplified by a dual-band system. It’s also Bluetooth 3.0 compatible.
The WiFi Chromebook Pixel with 32 GB will begin shipping next week for $1,299 in the US and £1,049 in the UK. The LTE, 64GB version will start shipping in April at $1,499.
Although, the Pixel is clearly targeted at Apple’s MacBook range, it runs Chrome OS – an OS that works with Web apps and requires the internet to function. $1299 is a very high price to pay for such a device.
Other Chromebooks have seen massive sales due to their super-low prices. The initial idea Google pitched for the Chromebook was that it can be easily disposed. Hence the low prices.
What do you think about the Chromebook Pixel and Chrome OS? Do you think it can fly?
