Ouya And OnLive Combine Forces

Ouya is the latest tech Kickstarter darling to set a new record for reaching a million dollars of funding in just 12 hours, and $2 million on its first full day. It has racked up $5.5 million in funding. OnLive is a company offering a cloud gaming platform and a cloud desktop solution. Both offerings are synchronized, rendered, and stored on remote servers and delivered via the Internet. Over 50 respected gaming publishers have partnered with OnLive, giving OnLive a very good game portfolio.

Ouya announced on July 27 that starting from launch, it would have OnLive support. OnLive’s General Manger, Bruce Grove had this to say,

We pioneered a groundbreaking, cloud-based system that instantly delivers games to any device on demand. We are pleased to announce that OnLive will be available on Ouya at launch, extending and building on our commitment to make the best games available to everyone, everywhere.

In OnLive’s official blog post, Grove implies that beyond just being able to stream OnLive’s top-tier games, one would also be able to play on Ouya and continue the experience on their PC, Mac, Android or iOS. Ouya also released an official photo of its controller which has the same layout as the Xbox 360 controller and has a boomerang-esque shape. Ouya also says its console will be the size of a Rubik’s cube.

It all looks very promising with top gaming titles and portability. We can only wait until its launch.
