Kickstarter Project, ‘MG’ Takes Android Gaming To The Next Level

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Kickstarter, it is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects on the web. A few days ago, a project was started by a group that called their account ‘PlayMG’ on the platform.

The header of the Project page read, “MG: First Portable Gaming System for the Android Market”. Its creators are seeking a whopping $950,000 on Kickstarter to get the device manufactured and the project only has 25 days to raise this fund. It seems like a very slim amount of time to raise such but some have seen this device to be the Ouya of handheld devices. Ouya, a console which had the same target on Kickstarter, closed successfully at about $8.5million.

A video of the project along with a demo of the Handheld below;

The Handheld boasts of features such as:

  • 4″ WVGA (480×800) Capacitive Touch
  • TCC8925 Cortex A5 processor at 1GHz.
  • 1GB RAM/4GB of internal flash storage
  • 1880mAh battery
  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera for still image and video capture
  • Stereo headset jack
  • Micro SD card slot for expandable memory
  • Micro USB 2.0 HS
  • Gyroscope, Compass, Accelerometer sensors

Contrary to the launch of the project debates have begun and investors are wondering if there is really space in the market for this kind of device. But we can obviously see from growth in iOS gaming and decline of console sales that “app based gaming” is becoming the dominant method of purchasing and playing games.

Would be interesting to see if this project becomes successful and we see the MG on the market.

Whats are your thoughts? Would you get one?
