As Android has grown to be the most popular mobile operating system on devices, data from StatCounter shows that Android’s browser is now the Web’s most used mobile browser.
Stats show that in February, Android’s browser overtook Opera’s top position for the first time. The chart below shows the use of mobile browsers within the last twelve months. Opera’s mobile browsers now take the second spot as it remains very popular on feature phones. Opera recently released Opera Next in Beta to increase the share of its browser on devices.
Apple’s mobile browser might have ranked first but StatCounter’s figures break the iPhone and the iPod Touch apart. It’s also important to remember that Google launched a special version of Chrome to Android recently, meaning the company is also looking to increase usage of its browser across devices.
For RIM, its BlackBerry browser share continues to drop along with Nokia’s browser.
Looking at the stats, it’s very important to know that StatCounter’s figures are based on websites and blogs that use its services and surveys. The figures aren’t precise but they show a general trend in browser share.
