We got leaks yesterday of Barnes & Noble’s upcoming Nook Tablet. We also reported that the Nook Color’s price will drop by $50 to $199. That’s already happened. The Nook Tablet won’t be officially unveiled until tomorrow so this price drop means there’s really something better coming up tomorrow.
The Nook Color is a 7-inch, 0.48 inches thick, 1024 X 600 IPS Display e-reader. It runs on a Texas Instruments OMAP 3621 800MHz CPU, with 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for additional storage up to 32GB. If you’re looking for a 3G device, sorry this one’s got only Wi-Fi. The battery lasts for 8 hours when Wi-Fi is turned on. It runs on a special version of Android 2.1 meaning you won’t get all the default Google love. It allows a wide variety of media files from PDFs to MP3s although video is limited to M4V only.
This price drop is in line with Barnes & Noble’s battle with Amazon. They’re both content retailers and they both need to get content in the cheapest way possible and still make profit and hold market share.
