Early in the week, Research In Motion announced on its blog that its BlackBerry App World is seeing an average of 3million downloads per day and they had crossed the 1billion downloads milestone. The BlackBerry App World was launched two years ago as a place where BlackBerry users could go, find and download apps they needed. RIM’s Alex Kinsela posted “The BlackBerry App World™ storefront launched a little over two years ago, and over that time, we’ve made many feature improvements, enhanced the look and feel, and added a ton of compelling apps.”

What RIM hasn’t told us however is if the number of downloads is based on initial downloads or if they include application updates. RIM has seen a pretty downtime in the last couple of weeks, with its share price going down, Employees releasing details of how they’ve not been treated properly and its continuous downturn in the overall share of mobile phones in the US and in the world. Oh, I forgot. The PlayBook isn’t doing very well in the market too.
