Here’s the second extension of RIM’s offer of free BlackBerry PlayBook for developers. The offer was initially for Android developers and has now been extended to C/C++, HTML5, AIR and Qt developers. So RIM will continue giving out 16GB of its BlackBerry PlayBook until the offer ends on March 2 for developers that register before 11.59 EST on March 15. The company says there were over 1,500 submissions and 6,600 new developers registered on BlackBerry App World as at last Friday.

RIM still insists that all mentions of “Android” and all links to Android Market be removed from app submissions. It seems the company is banking on the idea that if developers get PlayBooks and there are no apps, they’ll have to build apps for it. 1,500 applications doesn’t seem like a lot compared to the number of apps on Apple’s App Store and on Android Market.

Can this offer get the PlayBook the market share it needs? Please leave us a comment.
