Windows 8 start screen

Yes, its true an all new Windows 8 exists. Microsoft has changed the entire User Interface and it now looks something like Windows Phone 7 on a large screen.

The home screen shows block of tiles with pre-installed with apps for weather and business, it can be modified to add other Windows 8 apps. Switching from application to application is a breeze. With a swipe of the finger on the right screen[if you're on a touchscreen device] or a click of the mouse, you can move to the next opened app. You can also resize open apps in the same way, so you can multitask.

They announced the new OS at the D9 developers conference yesterday. Where Microsoft said it was more of the engineering work than the design work. That means they’ve put in a lot of work behind the scenes to make it as fast as possible.

Hopefully, this version of Windows doesn’t hang. Windows 8 will run on new ARM-based chips from hardware makers to make processing fast and most of the OS is based on HTML5. Apps made specifically for Windows 8 might have to be based solely on HTML5, Javascript or other web languages.

Here’s a list of some of the features they added:

•Fast launching of apps from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable, scalable full-screen view of apps.

•Live tiles with notifications, showing always up-to-date information from your apps.

•Fluid, natural switching between running apps.

•Convenient ability to snap and resize an app to the side of the screen, so you can really multitask using the capabilities of Windows.

•Web-connected and Web-powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript that have access to the full power of the PC.

•Fully touch-optimized browsing, with all the power of hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 10.

The OS is very beautiful compared to Windows 7 and even Vista. You can tell that Microsoft is ready to port Windows 8 to a multiple range of devices: TV, Tablets, maybe even phones.

Leave us a comment after you watch the video. What do you think? Is this Windows going to give Mac OS a tough time in the market?

  1. I believe that Windows has always given Mac OS a tough time, and this one is just going to make it better. But let's see what Mac has to offer with the OS X Lion coming in the summer.
