The New and Improved Yahoo! Mail.
Just like me, 270 million or so users of Yahoo mail, were in for a surprise when they checked their inbox. They expected to see the regular web mail they were accustomed to, but instead they saw a better and improved web mail. Yahoo has upgraded, yet again. In a blog released some days back, David McDowell, the Senior Director of Product Management of Yahoo mail, stated that the latest version of Yahoo mail is faster, safer and easier to use.
The new mail, which has over 50 themes to choose from, is available in 43 markets and 26 languages around the world. We all know by now, unless you have been living under a rock, that Gmail has surpassed yahoo mail as the number one web-mail in the world (although Yahoo mail still has more users). Yahoo apparently has decided to give Google a run for their money.
Yahoo has decided to integrate Facebook and Twitter to its Beta program, by integrating Facebook, you can reply to messages directly from Facebook as well as view notifications.
The company has also introduced a more vigilant spam filtration, the spam filter is set to reduce spam by 60 percent, because of the use of spam guard technology, in numbers it blocks out 550 billion spam messages every month. Messages received from contacts are given top priorities while it protects its users from unwanted instant messaging conversations as well as email hackers.
The improvements also allows for 100Mb of mail to be attached when sending out mails. Yahoo is hoping that this upgrades can help to attract and retain new and current customers but even with all these improvements, it is still hard to see Yahoo mail overtaking Gmail giving that the latter already has all these features.
As a user of Yahoo mail, I personally hope that these improvements are just the start of something new. But for the neutrals, it should be fun to see Yahoo mail and Gmail compete against each other to be number one. Do you think with these changes Yahoo Mail can surpass Gmail as the top Web-mail in the world? Let us know what your thoughts and opinion are in the comments below.
