6 Ideas Get Listed For CC-Hub’s Tech-In-Ed Hackathon

A few weeks ago, Co-Creation Hub called for submission of ideas for its Tech-in-Education Hackathon beginning with a pre-hackathon event on Friday. The numerous number of ideas have been brought down to six. All six ideas will be worked on during the two-day hackathon ending on Sunday. Below is a list of the ideas and a short explanation for each of them.

Genius Quiz Game

Genius Quiz Game will be an interactive quiz management system for students built with the help of teachers. At the beginning of each term, students will be provided with CD-ROMs costing N999 each and containing 5,000 quizzes on whatever subject the student aims to learn. The questions on each CD-ROM will be provided by the school and based on its curriculum. What’s in it for schools? A N300 development fee per CD-ROM.

Pronunciation Buddy

Pronunciation Buddy hopes to be a colourful app to aid children learn the correct pronunciation of words. The app will contain a list of words and their correct pronunciation. In order to move ahead, the user has to correctly pronounce the words he/she already heard. I hope this fixes all our h-factor, s-factor and preyyure meayures.

TWIK: Teaching What I know

TWIK is a mobile/web app where students are the content creators. The platform will allow students teach and share knowledge on particular subjects and topics of their choice. Contribution to the platform will be via video. The video will then be available for others to view, comment and discuss.

Scrabble in Schools initiative(SiSi)

The idea behind SiSi is to get more students in the Scrabble board game as a word development tool. The initiative has been test run in top schools and 2 major tournaments have been organised involving 30 schools and 150 school kids. At the end of each Scrabble class, 5 new words are introduced, helping pupils discover new words.

Genii Games

Genii Games will be a group of software games that combine story-telling(via folk-tales), animation, videos, games, graphics and text to teach subjects that are directly relevant to the Nigerian people specifically Social and Civic Studies. The Games can be sold as CD-ROMs or mobile apps.

Teacher Training Online

Teacher Training Online is a learning community powered by mobile. This affords teachers the time to learn anywhere they are and apply new ideas in the classroom. It’ll give more teachers access to quality teacher-training.

After the 2-day hackathon, The top 3 ideas will be awarded seed funding of $3000USD for 1st, $2000USD for 2nd and $1500USD for 3rd position.
