FBI Shuts Down Megaupload, Charges Operators With Piracy
In a statement from the United States Justice Department, the FBI has busted the operators of File sharing service Megaupload and have charged them with Piracy. 7 people have been indicted, while 4 have been arrested and taken into custody. The website ‘Megaupload.com’ has also been taken down. The operators are charged with crimes related to online piracy, including racketeering conspiracy, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, and conspiring to commit money laundering in the US state of Virginia.
The statement also says that megaupload’s operations are led by German, Kim Schmitz aka Kim Dotcom. He was arrested in Auckland by the New Zealand police along with Kim Tim Jim Vestor. The Justice Department’s statement pointed out that Kim Dotcom fis founder of Megaupload and is the director and sole shareholder of Vestor Limited which holds interests in Megaupload and its affiliates.

Let’s take a look at this. If you’ve been using Megavideo to watch TV Shows and Movies, you have to realise that it’s online piracy. These videos are created by people who spend millions of dollars. Initially, we didn’t have legitimate ways to watch TV shows and movies online but now we’ve got Netflix, Hulu, Roku and the rest.
See, they can take out sites without SOPA
This is why nobody needs SOPA. Rogue sites like this can easily be taken down with enough investigation and proof. There’s really no need for an act that’ll kill innovation and murder free speech.
