Facebook Will Announce Skype-Powered Video Chat Next Week

Remember that “something awesome” Mark Zuckerberg said he was gonna launch next week, sources have it that it’s an in-browser Video Chat tool running on Skype. Of course this is very plausible looking at the fact that Microsoft has stake in Facebook and they’ve acquired Skype.
Funny thing, I tweeted yesterday that With the ‘Hangouts’ feature on Google+, Facebook will be forced to work with Skype and integrate Video Chat into it’s services. The Press invitations went out today saying “Please join us for an event at Facebook” on July 6. The invite has got Chat icons on it. Is this what the chat icons means?
However, it is clear that the product is built on Skype and will include a desktop component. Facebook and Skype have been working together with the integration of the Facebook news-feed and chat into Skype 5.0 last year. This partnership has the potential to increase Skype usage looking at the fact that Facebook has 750million users and Skype has about 170 million.
What do you think? Is this good competition with Google+ considering the fact that it’s ‘Hangouts’ feature is one of the features that make it unique?
