Remember when we said 500,000 Android devices were being activated everyday? Scratch that! Forget it. It’s old news now. Google announced on its second quarter earnings that Android devices now number up to 130 million. This is an extremely large gap from the 30 million devices announced at Google I/O in May. Google has also announced that they’re now activating 550,000 devices every day. When you compare this to the 500,000 that Android boss Andy Rubin announced at the end of June, we’re seeing a pretty solid growth for Android.

On the global mobile OS market, Apple Annnounced there were 200 million devices sold at WWDC, so Android still has a long way to go to meet up with iOS. When you do the math however, all it takes for Android to meet up with iOS is another 127 days and it’ll reach there in a shorter time. The growth of Android devices increases by 4% every month, while iOS is the second largest mobile platform in the U.S.

What do you think about this? Is Android about to win the Smartphone Showdown?
