Google Releases Top Search Terms For Nigeria: M.I, Wizkid And Football Top The List

Google has revealed search insights from Nigerians between January 1st and September 27th of 2012. The stats show that of all the things Nigerians are interested in, the football and music categories top the charts.

These trends can be viewed publicly via Google’s Insights for Search tool. The search trends also gives perspective into major events that have happened in the year. For content publishers, it shows the hottest trends amongst the Nigerian online populace.

Football tops the charts. We. Love. Football. It was found that Nigerians care so much about the performance of the national teams and activities of the NFF. Chelsea and Arsenal top the football club search trends.

Second place category for the most searched terms is music. Of all Nigerian music celebrities, rapper M.I and singer Wizkid are the most searched music celebrities. The most popular types of music searched are fuji music, illuminati, Hausa music and Yoruba music. Assuming the Illuminati is a music category.

Because search terms can be used to track trends and interests, it seems the interest in terrorist group Boko Haram is dwindling. Searches for “Boko Haram” have continued to drop since July.

Google will always answer your questions. Of all the questions asked between January 1st and September 27th, The questions “What is Education?” and “What is love” topped the charts. “What is computer” remains one of the most popular question as it was the most popular in 2011.
