The nano-SIM is 60% smaller than this regular SIM card

Giesecke & Devriednt introduces the nano-SIM: an even smaller SIM card for connected devices. The nano-sim is a third smaller than the micro-SIM found in the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and 3G connected tablets. It’s also 60 percent smaller than the regular SIM card and 15 percent thinner.

If the nano-SIM is adopted, it will pave way for smaller and thinner devices. It could also mean more space for useful additions like larger batteries. Giesecke & Devrient is a Munich-based company credited with producing the world’s first SIM card and is committed to shrinking the size of SIM cards like Apple. Apple earlier this year, submitted a nano-SIM standard to the European Telecommunicatins Standards Institute. G&D says the ETSI will standardise the nano-SIM by the end of the year and for SIM or micro-SIM users, an adapter will be available to make the nano-SIM compatible with older gadgets.
