Apple now worth more than Microsoft and Intel combined (Wintel)

Seems like Steve Job’s is on a roll here. His sweater not only costs an iPod and an iPad, but his company Apple is now worth more than Microsoft and Intel combined.  According to an article in Macdailynews, Microsoft had a market value of $201.59 billion, while Intel’s value was $115.21 billion. Combined, the two are worth $316.8 billion, which is less than Apple’$317.6 billion valuation.

I am sure some of you are saying that “Wintel”  has a commanding market share lead in desktop computers, yes – this is very true.  In the fourth quarter of 2010, Apple had just 7.4% of the U.S. market for PCs, in units.  Majority of the remaining 92.6% went to Wintel PCs.

Regardless of this, Apple’s successful expansion into new categories, like smartphones and tablets, is reflected in the company’s valuation, which is based on estimates of growth, rather than current sales. Microsoft also stated that the strong response to Apple’s iPad and iPad 2 was a factor in its reduction in consumer PC sales.

I am writing about technology because it is an important factor in the world today and it is rapidly changing the world. Being part of a tech blog is a great opportunity for me because it is not something that people really concentrate on (Nigerians). I intend on informing people about what is going on in the tech world by providing first hand quality information. I will blog with a concentration on business, marketing, and legal matters. Believe it or not business makes the world go round as it is our major means of trading and making money. I hope to grow and mature while being part of Technesstivity in terms of expanding my knowledge about gadgets, solving everyday technological problems and technology in general.
