BlackBerry OS 7.1 Announced: Brings Mobile Hotspot, NFC Sharing and Radio

RIM has announced a new update to the BlackBerry OS 7 line for its latest BlackBerry smartphones,the OS 7.1. The new OS brings new functionalities such as mobile hotspot which allows you share your internet connection with up to five devices via WiFi, Blackberry Tag which allows you tap your phone against another to start a BBM conversation, exchange contact information, share files, links, photos and videos using NFC which is available in the latest BlackBerry smartphones. The OS is available for the Curve 9360 and Curve Touch 9380.

It also adds FM Radio to your device and the new BBM(BBM 6.1)  which brings animated avatars, custom colour chat bubbles, more space for bio text in profiles to make it 160 characters and new emoticons

Also native BlackBerry apps such as BlackBerry Travel have been updated. BlackBerry Travel makes it easier plan your trips, store all important information/bookings and notifies you if you have any delayed or cancelled flight. Another app is the BlackBerry Traffic which brings hands-free turn by turn voice navigation and helps determine your estimated time of arrival using current traffic conditions.

Other features are WiFi calling(not supported by any operator in Nigeria),Bing auto-suggest in universal search and locals deals in BB Maps. All the updated apps such as BBM, BlackBerry Travel and BlackBerry Traffic are available for download via BlackBerry App World.
