Globacom’s Glo 1, the acclaimed major bandwidth provider for Africa, recently announced the activation of ‘high speed’ internet bandwidth connectivity at Babcock University, Ogun State.

Head of Glo 1 Enterprise Solutions, Folu Aderibigbe, said introducing the connection on campus “would provide fast and reliable internet services” to Babcock.

According to the press release, Glo 1 signed a deal with the university a few months ago to provide 40 megabytes of internet to them. They described it as “the largest in the country’s education sector so far”, so we’re guessing they meant 40 gigabytes?

This development is in preparation for the January 2012 semester which will see the début of Babcock University’s Business School and Benjamin S. Carson School of Medicine which will offer students with high-tech facilities and equipment.

“With the activation of the contract, the university’s staff and students will be able to leverage the power of the Glo 1 cable to conduct their online research and realtime laboratory and classroom collaborative teaching from renown scholars around the world on virtually all subject areas. It will be an exciting new experience for them”

All senior staff and management of the university currently use Glo Blackberry services while the network has also provided postpaid CUG plans for both staff and students, so it’s a good business relationship already.

Babcock was recently voted Africa’s Best Private University 2011 by the All Africa Students Union in Accra, Ghana.
