South Africa’s Cell C Opens Pre-Orders For iPhone 4S

South African mobile telecoms network Cell C has quietly opened pre-orders for Apple’s iPhone 4S from the 29th of June. This makes it the third South African mobile network to offer the iPhone 4S. The other providers are MTN and Vodacom.

Cell C says the old iPhone 4 8GB model will also be made available with all iPhone 4S models. The company’s iPhone 4S will officially hit stores on the July 15.

Starting at R6599, the iPhone 4 will be available on prepaid subscriptions as prices for iPhone 4S have not been made public yet. However, Cell C’s “Straight up” contract options will be available to all iPhone models with bonus data.

Cell C is following Vodacom which introduced the iPhone 3G in 2008 and MTN’s introduction of the iPhone 4 in 2010. Reports say that due to the iPhone’s popularity in South Africa, Vodacom and MTN have been struggling to keep up with demand.
