Hello MeeGo: Nokia N9 Revealed

The highly anticipated Nokia N9 smartphone has arrived. The touch screen smartphone is MeeGo OS-powered and uses the OMAP 3630 1GHz processor. The N9 comes with a lot of other specifications – 16/64 GB memory with 1GB RAM, 8 MP wide-angle shooter capable of 16:9 720p recording. Regarding connectivity, the N9 has quad-band GSM and penta-band WCDMA with Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC (same technology used in Google Wallet). The dimensions of the phone are 116.45 x 61.2 x 7.6-12.1mm weighing 132 grams with the screen being an AMOLED screen measuring 854 x 480 on a 3.9-inch sheet. The phone is encased in a polycarbonate shell which comes in limited colors – black, cyan and magenta. The polycarbonate shell ensures that it is anti-scratch except for really deep scratches made on the phone. Battery power ranges from 50 hours (music), 7-11 hours (calling) and 4.5 hours (720p video). The phone also boasts a micro-SIM slot, an ambient light sensor, compass, orientation sensor, tethering support and a 3.5mm AV connector.

On the software side, it comes preinstalled with the Angry Birds Magic, Galaxy on Fire 2, Real Golf 2011, and OpenGL ES 2.0 and the Maps with connectivity with the Ovi Store. It is also deeply integrated with Facebook and Twitter. The questions still remain, will this and proposed Win 7 adoption turnaround the fortune of the once great Finnish manufacturer and extinguish the burning platform that Nokia currently sits on. The phone will be available for sale later this year.

What do you think about it? Could Nokia be on the rise again? We’d love to see your comments.
