BREAKING: MIH To Shutdown Mocality Kenya And Mocality Nigeria
Reports say MIH Internet Africa is planning to shutdown its business listing service – Mocality. The closure involves Mocality’s Kenyan and Nigerian websites.
The websites Mocality.com.ng and Mocality.co.ke are still running at the time of his post. Both sites will be taken down soon as staff on one of the teams were briefed today.
We’re currently not sure if MIH plans to rebrand like it did with Dealfish (now OLX). We also don’t know what the fate of Mocality staff and recently launched Mocality deals will be.
Mocality isn’t the first MIH website closing as the company shutdown its e-commerce website known for selling electronics, Kalahari, last year.
Reasons for the shutdown have not been revealed to us but we’re betting on short-term unprofitability. The Mocality revenue model is based largely on pageviews and advertisements. So far, that hasn’t been able to sustain running costs.
On the upside, MIH can use the data it has gotten from Mocality to launch better web services in the future.
We have reached out to MIH staff for an official comment.
What do you think? Should MIH wait a few more years before thinking about its Return on
Investment?
