Microsoft’s on{X} Gives Extended Control Of Your Android Device [VIDEO]

Pronounced ‘on-ex’, Microsoft Isreal’s on{X} project gives you super control of your Android device via remote programming. on{X} allows you tell your Android device what to do at specific times and at specific speeds.

Imagine being able to tell your Android phone what playlist to switch to or who to text when you’re driving, walking and even when you get to the office. The team behind this is Microsoft’s Isreali Information Platform and Experiences[IPE] team. IPE is a team that specialises in signal collection on mobile devices and geo-location services. Their main duty is to enhance the Bing experience based on real-time location sharing, proximity detection and recommendation systems.

You can access on{X} via its website and its Android app where you’ll receive 11 modifiable templates.

For programmers and super nerds, on{X} has a Javascript API that allows you create new ‘rules’ based on ‘triggers’ and ‘actions’. All recipes are private by default and users can publish recipes as public if they wish.

The next question you’ll ask is “Why is Microsoft building something for Android?”. Well, the IPE’s Program Manager Shira Weinberg says the less strict security model of Android is good for deploying such technology. This means we should expect on{X} to move to Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices soon.

Here’s a demo video of on{X}
