Weeks after releasing WebRTC audio and video chat software as open-source, Google has begun to integrate the capabitilies of WebRTC into Chrome and moving past the features of Google Voice and Gmail. They’re planning for WebRTC to be at the frontline of Video conferencing and online chatting. The software is also royalty-free as Google is promising to work with other browser developers such as Mozilla and Opera to launch the project. In theory, anyone building a website can make use of the source codes and construct their own personal Skype. With the launch of the Chrome OS laptops a few months ago, we’re seeing Google take on the side of web apps and this is another way to battle native desktop apps.
What do you think about this? Is it going to be a good competitor for Skype when it launches? Since we spend more time in our browser than on desktop apps anyway.
