Did you know that it is almost psychologically impossible to speak when your words are being played just after you say them? Well, if you did, I didn’t so excuse me for finding the concept cool.
Anyways, Japanese researchers have used this psychological phenomenon to develop a system known as Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) which records your voice and plays it back to you a fraction of a second later. They have then packaged DAF into to a Radar Gun of sorts, complete with a directional mic and speaker, distance sensor and a trigger switch to turn it on, plus a laser pointer for targeting purposes.
So now, when you’re studying for that final and those who have finished their finals come to the library for their end-of-term gist, you can finally just aim, fire, and enjoy the resulting silence. Oh bliss.
